Yes, we at Faith Independent Baptist Church believe the doctrine of "once saved always saved."
I need to clarify a false accusation often thrown at us. We do not believe a person can accept Christ, receive salvation and live any way we please without God's chastening hand, and even sometimes God's swift terminal judgment as we see in these Scriptures.
1 Cor.5:1-5 "It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus."
This young man was in an immoral relationship with his step mother. Notice what the Word tells us in verse 5 "To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus."
The flesh was going to be destroyed ( the sin unto death ) but the spirit was going to "be saved in the day of The Lord Jesus."
This is how God deals with Christians who take advantage of their eternally security by living in sin.
John 10:25-31 "Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of Me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of My sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are one."
John 3:14-16 "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
John 5:37-40 "And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life."
This is not a case on them having eternal life and losing it. It is obvious from the last statement of Jesus that they thought they had eternal life by flawed theology.
Notice: "And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life."
John 17:1-10 "These words spake Jesus, and lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify Thy Son, that Thy Son also may glorify Thee: As thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given Him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent. I have glorified Thee on the earth: I have finished the work which Thou gavest Me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou Me with Thine own self with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was. I have manifested Thy name unto the men which Thou gavest Me out of the world: Thine they were, and Thou gavest them Me; and they have kept Thy word. Now they have known that all things whatsoever Thou hast given Me are of Thee. For I have given unto them the words which Thou gavest Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from Thee, and they have believed that thou didst send Me. I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which Thou hast given Me; for they are Thine. And all Mine are Thine, and Thine are Mine; and I am glorified in them."
These verses claim that they are already His.
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Notice the gift of God "Is Eternal Life."
The moment a person accepts Christ in repentance and faith, that person now and forever as eternal life!
1 John 2:24-25 "Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. And this is the promise that He hath promised us, even eternal life."
1 John 5:10-13 "He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made Him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of His Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."
Notice, ”And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son."
Jude 1:21 "Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life."
John 3:36 "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."
Notice the past tense "hath everlasting life." If what we have is everlasting life, how can it be anything other than everlasting? If it can be lost, it is not everlasting in the first place!
John 5:24 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."
John 6:40 "And this is the will of Him that sent Me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. "
John 6:47 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life."
Notice again the past tense, "He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life." These already have everlasting life!
Eph.1:11-14 "In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will: That we should be to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory."
According to verse 11, saved people have already obtained the inheritance! We are waiting to get there. Notice, "until the redemption of the purchased possession." If you are saved, you are already "The purchased possession."
Here again, notice the past tense statement. "In whom also we have obtained an inheritance."
Notice also when we were sealed. "in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise." It is the moment we receive Christ, not after we have endured or held out faithful.
According to this, saved people have already obtained the inheritance! We are waiting to get there. Notice, "until the redemption of the purchased possession."
Notice two words in verse 14. "purchased possession."
When something is purchased, the transaction is done and ownership is transferred, and the transaction is complete.
Look at 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."
1 Cor. 7:23 "Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men."
These verses prove without doubt, that God already owns us and claims us from the moment we believe the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, and accept His payment for our sins!
Eph. 4:29-32 "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."
Notice "And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption."
No one can break the seal of God!
1 Peter 1:3-9 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls."
Notice, "reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time"
Why would God reserve an inheritance in heaven for you if your salvation is not eternal?
Look how true believers can be sure of their eternal future. "Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."
My friends, it is impossible for true Christians to lose salvation. That which is purchased by God is kept safe by God!
Our Eternal security is based on the promise of God, not on anything we do or do not do!
Friends, God keeps us eternally secure and believers have absolutely nothing to do with this keeping.
WE MAY GO TO HEAVEN EARLY, BUT WE WILL NEVER GO TO HELL!
