I see thy tears

Some regrets that will die with us or go with us into eternity
I preached this message at Faith two weeks ago.
One of the most important lessons a saved person can learn and practice in life is the necessity of being consistent day by day in life. In fact, this could be the root of serious failure in many lives because the progression away from God and His Word most often does not start with the more serious offenses. Drug addicts, drunkards, adulterers and other people caught in the chains of sin do not set out to go that far. In my almost thirty year pastoral ministry, I have witnessed first hand the greatest failures which began with the smallest transgressions. Please read 2 Cor. 4:8-18 for the thought, and notice vss.16-17. This day by day renewing is not an arbitrary renewing. It is dependent upon our day by day obedience to the Word of God under the Work of the Holy Spirit bringing conviction in our lives. When we ignore the slightest conviction and go on in the direction of sin, we have experienced James 1:13-16 (Please read). Notice that this is day by day renewing, not week by week or month by month. The Christian life is a daily life or it is a failure. Look at James 4:13-17. In Psalm 61:8, David said, “So will I sing praise unto Thy name, that I may daily perform my vows.” In Psalm 56:1 he cries, “Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.” Verse 8, “Every day they wrest my words.”
In Luke 9:23, Jesus said “If a man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
I can make a prediction about any one of us: IF we do not follow Christ daily, it is doubtful we will follow him at all for long.
In Acts 17:10-12 they “Searched the Scriptures daily…” They examined, scrutinized the Word of God daily. In John 5:39, Jesus told them to “Search the Scriptures.” That means to investigate. In Hebrews 3:7-13, we are to “Exhort one another daily.” How can we do this if we are not living for Christ daily?
Now, I would like to encourage us all to day by day living the Christian life.
- All believers, truly Born Again Christians should have a daily time in the Word of God. In Job 23:12, Job esteemed the Word of God more than his necessary food. Food is a daily necessity, however, God’s word is more necessary than our physical food.
- All believers, truly Born Again Christians should have daily prayer. The model prayer of Matt. 6:1-15 should be read and notice verse 11. Jesus instructing the disciples about prayer said, “Give us this day our daily bread.” The words “This day” and “Daily” indicate that exactly that. We should pray every day.
- All believers, truly Born Again Christians Should have daily cleansing of sin and dying to the world, flesh and devil. Paul writing under inspiration said in 1 Cor. 15:31 “I die daily.” We have to have daily washing from sin and daily warring against our flesh and the devil. Paul was talking about overcoming the flesh daily. He was dying daily to the desires of his sinful flesh nature. Look at Eph. 4:26 where we see in the Word of God that we are not to “Let the sun go down upon our wrath.” You know that when the sun goes down, that day ends and we wait for the next new day. Get things right day by day and you will live for the Lord Jesus day by day.
Finally, I encourage you dear Saint of God, if you give Him your days, and you do it day by day, he will have your whole life. If you are not a day by day Christian, why not today, right now, make a commitment to the Lord to become a “day by day” Christian. If I can help, do not hesitate to get in touch.
