The greatest victory in life is the victory over self
We live in a Spiritually dirty world. Everywhere we turn it is there; everywhere go we hear the dirty words and see the dirty acts of man and it seems most give no thought to their “open sepulchre.” Look at Romans 3:10-18 for a Biblical description of modern day mankind. In John 13:1-17, we see an illustration of the subject. In verse 5 Jesus began to wash their feet, and eventually makes His way to Peter. It looks like Peter has been silent until Jesus gets to him, and he has had time to contemplate what was happening. He has decided to refuse the gesture, v6. “Lord, dost thou wash my feet?” In v7, Jesus tells him he doesn’t know what He is doing but would later. That did not satisfy Peter and he said, v8, “Thou shalt never wash my feet.” Jesus responds, “If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with Me.” To show how much it touched him, he said, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and head.” The teaching was humility, yet out of this teaching of Christ, we see the desire to be clean Spiritually. Ironically, Peter had problems in all these areas…Head in Matt. 16:21-23; Hands in John 18:10 and feet in John 21
We live in a Spiritually dirty world, but we do not have to live dirty in it. 1 John 5:19 tells us that we live in a world that is under the curse of sin under the work of Satan. Phil. 2:12-14 describes Christians in it as “in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation.” Gal. 1:4 tells us Jesus “Gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world.”
John 17:9-16 is a recorded prayer of Jesus talking with the Father about this sin cursed world and the Children of God living in it. Verse 11, we are in the world; yet v16 states, “ye are not of the world.” and in spite of that Jesus in v15 prays “not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.”
Keep this in mind: Christians are in constant danger of two things, Spiritual failure and unspiritual filth. (1 Peter 5:8 ; Luke 22:31) The only way Satan can “Devour us” and “have us” is to involve us in this “present evil world.”
There is an external difference in Christians because there is an internal difference in Christians! Please read 1 Cor. 6:9-11 and notice verse 11, which states, “And such were some of you: but ye are washed”, from the things named in vs. 9-10
Dear readers, you do not have to live in America to be living in a Spiritually dirty world. Sin and the influence of Satan is in this world. That is why he is referred to as the “god of this world” in 2 Cor. 4:4
God, the true God of the Bible wants His people clean, Eph. 5:25-27 and we are free to live clean lives for the honor and glory of God.
1. We do not have to be corrupted by the world we live in (2 Peter 1:4) but if we are, we are not clean.
2. We do not have to be conformed to the world we live in (Rom. 12:1-2) but if we are, we are not clean.
3. We do not have to be conditioned by the world we live in (Phil. 2:15) but if we are, we are not clean.
Are you Spiritually clean in your life? Do you want to be clean with God? Saved person. if you have known, unconfused, habitual, hidden sin in your life…you are not clean with God. Go to God in the spirit of 1John 1:9 and be cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ your Saviour.
Unsaved person. no matter how clean you live in this life, no matter how clean you talk or live, or how good you treat others; You must be Born Again in order to be clean with God and have your soul Saved by the Blood of Jesus Christ. Eph 2:8-9
