The greatest victory in life is the victory over self
One of the greatest resistances of mankind is the RESISTANCE TO AUTHORITY. Some of the words associated with this are: defiance, stubbornness, insubordination, unmanageable, and rejection. Look at Romans 13:1-7 (Read) Notice verse 1, “The powers that be are ordained of God …” In a broad way, there are three major powers or authorities in life, and under these, there are other authorities. I list them as SPIRITUAL AUTHORITIES, GOVERNMENTAL AUTHORITIES AND DELIGATED AUTHORITIES. God has absolute authority over all creation, including all powers that be. Verse 4 is speaking of governmental power.
Delegated authority is what God give to a man as head of his house; parents over their children; pastors over their flock.
In Judges 17:6 and 21:25 there was no king (authority) in the land therefore “every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” Proverbs 21:1 states, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it withers over He will.”
Contrary to what many people believe, President Obama is under God’s authority.
In 1 Samuel 15:23, King Saul “Rejected the Word of the LORD.” God called this STUBBORNESS AND REBELLION. In Gen. 3:1, the first three words recorded out of the serpent’s (Satan) mouth are “Yea, hath God said.” Notice that, beginning in the garden of Eden, there has always been and will always be a response from God when there is rejection of His authority. Look at 1 Tim. 1:8-10 where the Law of God is being referred to and when we reject God’s Word, we reject God’s authority. See chapter 2:1-4 as well. In Romans 13:4 the police officer is the minister of God and he is “a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.” A person that is always trying to get by the governmental powers is violating the authority of God!
Thirdly, I want to deal with the structure of Home Authority. In Gen. 3:14-19, we see where God gave the man “rule over” the wife. She may be smarter, wiser, stronger in many ways, but he is still the “Head.” See Eph. 5:21-33; 1 Tim. 2:8-15; 1 Peter 3:1-7; Col. 3:18-19; Eph. 6:1-4 and Col. 3:20-21
Again, The powers that be or ordained of God. Romans 13:2 tells us “Whosoever resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God.” The word “ordinance” means institution or arrangement, “of God.” It means to order or arrange thoroughly, to command, or set in order.
Finally, our response to these powers that be is a measure of our respect for God, and our rebellion against the powers that be is actually a rebellion against THE AUTHORITY OF GOD IN OUR LIVES.
I must tell fathers and mothers how important it is to raise children to understand and respond to the powers that be, parental and governmental, so that they understand the authority of God in their lives.
May God help us to respond to the powers that He has ordained in life.
