Thanksgiving - Count Your Blessings!

According to the Bible, one of the signs of the last days is the ingratitude of mankind. The Apostle Paul wrote Timothy in 2 Tim. 3:2 about the last days and perilous times stating, "For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, UNTHANKFUL, unholy."

Romans 1:21 tells us that ingratitude accompanies unbelief. Notice: "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, NEITHER WERE THANKFUL; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened."

In all these years of helping folks with material needs, I can not think of more than one or two who have returned with a note or call of thanksgiving. I received a call recently from a woman asking for help. I asked if she had received help from other Churches. She said she had and I asked her, "Which Church?" Would you believe she didn't know the name of the Church? I said, "Ma'am, if a Church was kind enough to help you pay a bill, you ought to be kind enough to send them a note of thanks."

Thankfulness comes out of the heart. Psalm 100:4 states, "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise; BE YE THANKFUL UNTO HIM, AND BLESS HIS NAME." Thanksgiving is an attitude of the heart, and when the heart is not right, then the fruit of thanksgiving is missing.

Psalm 50:14 states, "Offer unto God THANKSGIVING; and pay thy vows unto the most high."

I preached Sunday Morning a message titled, "In Everything Give Thanks" taken from 1 Thess. 5:18 which states, "In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."

We sing a hymn here sometimes titled "Count Your Blessings". If you can not thank God for what has happened to you, try thanking Him for what has not happened to you. Look around and you will not have to look far or long to see how good God has been to you. Read Romans 8:28-39 and see the goodness of God to you, saved person. If you are lost, why not turn to Christ, thank Him for dying for you, accept His free Gift of Salvation and go on your way rejoicing with thanksgiving? Salvation will make you a THANKFUL PERSON.
