The greatest victory in life is the victory over self
It is sad that the New Year is brought in with drunkenness and debauchery. In Gen. 9:20, Noah got drunk on alcoholic wine and was "uncovered in his tent." In Gen. 19:32-38 Lot got drunk and committed incest with his two daughters, resulting in two sons by them to his great shame and a curse. 1 Cor. 6:9-10 lists several things inconsistent with the Christian life including, "neither drunkards, nor revilers, ...shall inherit the kingdom of God." Proverbs 23:29-35 describe those deceived by wine and strong drink. "Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? Who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth ( pain and poison) like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. Thine eyes shall behold strange women, (imagination perverted) and thine heart shall utter perverse things. (speech perverted) Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. (dizziness) They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; (beaten without knowing why) they have beaten me, and I felt it not: (numbness) when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again." (bondage!) The first drink is the foot in the door and this leads to bondage and dependence. Each drink creates stronger desires and leads to a stronghold of Satan. "Whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise." Galatians 5:21 gives a list which includes drunkenness: "Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."
Salvation results in a NEW CREATURE (see 2 Cor. 5:17). The New Creature (Christian) is no longer in bondage to sin. Old things have passed away and All things have become New! Are you still in bondage? "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." Jn.8:36
