The Accountability of Stewards
Please read Luke 16:1-13 and notice the words, "steward(s)" and "stewardship." Those words mean "a house distributor," i.e. manager or overseer. This person in this position is accountable to his master. Look at Luke 12:42-48, Romans 14:1-12 and 1 Peter 4:1-10. Accountability to God is one of the greatest motivations to live a life that pleases our Master, the Lord Jesus Christ. Fear of God is that which encourages accountability. Friends, we are all accountable to God:
- We are all accountable for our soul's destiny. Luke 12:20; 1 Pet. 1:22. Salvation is a personal responsibility. No one can be saved for you, and only you will pay for refusing God's gift of Salvation through Christ.
- We are accountable to God for the words we speak. Matt. 12:33-37
- We are all accountable to God for the deeds we do. 1Peter 4:1-5 and Phil 4:17. Even lost people will be judged according to their works. Rev. 20:12-13
- We (saved) are accountable to God for the lost. We are entrusted with the Gospel. We owe the world a debt. Acts 20:26-27, Ez. 3:16-21
- We are accountable for the integrity of our Christian life. 1Cor. 12; 2 Cor. 5:6-13 and 2 Cor. 4:1-2
- We are all accountable for the secrets of our heart. Rom. 2:16; 1 Cor. 14:25; Matt. 10:24-28 and Heb. 4:13. You may think, "I feel good. I did not get caught. No one knows. I can't wait to do it again." Guess what? You are accountable even though you got by and no one knows but God. Your secret will be out one day. See Rev. 20:11-15
- Now, the most serious of our accountabilities as stewards, lost or saved, is our accountability to the Holy Spirit. The lost are accountable to the Holy Spirit's conviction to be converted. The saved are accountable to the Holy Spirit's conviction to be corrected. Heb. 10:29-31; 1 Thess. 5:19; Isa. 63:10; Eph. 4:30. Notice in these verses, "vexed," "grieved," "despite" and "quench." Romans 14;12 tells us, "So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God." Are you ready?
