I see thy tears

Some regrets that will die with us or go with us into eternity
I doubt there has been a time in the last 5 decades when America has been more united in prayer. Our leaders have called the nation to prayer, and truly this is needful. I am not here to point a finger at any one group of people or at any one particular failure in our nation. I am here to say that according to the Bible, when a nation forsakes God, God has promised to forsake that nation. Israel is the greatest example of this principle. Even a casual reader of the Bible recognizes that when Israel turned from God, God turned from Israel. Most of the prophets dealt with this issue. I could quote numerous examples here. There is no doubt that God has blessed and protected America since it's founding. It is also obvious that God removed His hand of protection on September 11, 2001. The answers as to why are probably varied, but the fact is God allowed the enemy to violate America. If we use the example of Israel, we can say that as long as they walked in His ways, He was with them in blessing and protection. When they forsook Him, He forsook them. That is a simple Biblical reality that is easily proven. One of the anchor verses of this truth is 2 Chron. 7:14 which states, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." That verse does speak of prayer and seeking God's face, but it also speaks of His people humbling themselves and turning from their wicked ways. The next words are"then will I hear from heaven." Our leaders have called us to prayer, but there is a step yet to be taken by our nation before God promises to answer our prayers: We must humble ourselves, seek God's face, and turn from our wicked ways.
Reading Isaiah 1:1-31, We see God giving a description of Israel in verse 4, "Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward." Verses 5-6 show how God dealt with them and they responded by revolting more and more. Verse 7 gives the result of God forsaking Israel: "Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence..." Verses 11-15 reveal that the people thought to take care of the problem by multitudes of sacrifices, burnt offerings, rams, fat of fed beasts, vain oblations, incense, calling of assemblies etc. Verse 14, God hates these and is weary to bear them. V15, God says, "And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood." Verses 16-20 contain the answer to the problem: "Wash you, (spiritually) make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;...Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat of the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it." America should be called to repentance and prayer!
