A Merry Heart

Prov. 17:22 states, "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones." Prov. 15:13 states, "A merry heart maketh a cheerful contenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken." We are living in such a stressful time with pressures of life pushing from every direction and for some people, happiness is something they only dream about. There are at least three things that affect our hearts: condition, companions and circumstances.

Condition = state of being          Circumstances = happening

1. Condition   What is your state of being? Prov. 16:20, Is your faith in God?   Psalm 144:15; 146:5, Do you know God?   Prov. 29:18 and Jn 13:17, Do you obey God? Your condition affects your heart. Are you saved? Are you faithful to the Lord? This all affects your merry heart.

2. Companions   One of the greatest influences in life is another person. Prov. 27:17, "Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the contenance of his friend."   Prov. 22:24, "Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go." Prov.1:15 states, "My son, walk not in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path."   Prov. 5:8 states, "Remove thy way far from her (strange woman), and come not nigh the door of her house."   For you parents, 1 Cor. 15:33 states, "Be not deceived: evil commications corrupt good manners." Your children's friends must be chosen and monitored wisely. Companions in the home are the most influential on our hearts. Prov 5:18 states, "Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth." Prov. 12:4 says, "A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband; but she that maekth ashamed is as rottonness in his bones." See also Prov. 21:9, 19;  25:24;  27:13 and 31:1-31. Sir, you can make a home a horrible place as well: Prov. 15:1-2, 18-19, 23, 27;  18:4, 21. Godly children can make a merry heart: Prov. 15:20;  27:11;  29:3 and 23:22-26.

3. Circumstances    Prov. 12:25 states, "Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh is glad." Prov. 15:30, "The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat." Jesus said, "The light of the body is the eye." The eyes are a window to the soul and many times circumstances cause people to lose heart and it is revealed in the eyes. This is a catching thing. If you are saved and living for God, let Romans 8:28 settle your heart. "And we know that all things (circumstances) work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose."

If you condition is either not saved, or saved and not serving God, change your condition! If your companions drag you down, change your companions (This does not include a husband or wife). If your circumstances are not brought on by the Chastening had of God, trust God with them. They will work for your good. You can have a merry heart.
