Horoscope and Fortune Telling

Today's article about horoscope and fortune telling, was first published on 10-26-91. I am reprinting it today and will also be printing previous articles of special interest.

  1. They are forbidden by God: Deut. 18:9-14 "When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times; or an enchanter; or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD; and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God. For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observer of times, and unto diviners; but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do."
  2. They are condemned by God: Micah 5:12 "And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers." Isaiah 47:9-14 "But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments. For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness; thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am; and none else beside me. Therefore shalt evil come upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off; and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know. Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou has labored from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit; if so be thou mayest prevail. Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologer, the stargazer, the monthly prognosticators, stand up and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame; there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to set before it."
