Some regrets that will die with us or go with us into eternity
The Bible clearly warns that there is a place called Hell. Jesus Christ spoke about Hell much more than He did about Heaven. His warnings about hell were very graphic and shocking. He once told an audience that any man who looks at a woman to lust after her commits adultery in his heart. He followed that up by saying that it would be better for a man to pluck his eye out than to burn in hell because of his eyes. Some men will not come to Christ because they do not want to leave their pornography. These men will burn in hell according to Jesus.
Jesus also told the story of two men who died. The one, a beggar, was carried
into "Abrahams bosom" (the paradise side of death). The other,
a rich man, was buried and ended up in hell. Consider the account:
Luke 16 "And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he many dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame." This man was in such torment that he longed for just one drop of water. Of course, Abraham explained that passage between the two places was not possible. Rich Man: "...I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." What Abraham meant by "Moses and the Prophets" was written scriptures that they had penned. If a man will not listen to the Bible, he would not listen to a man come back from the dead.
Of all the 9-11-01 images that I have seen, the one that bothers me the most is the picture of people jumping out of the New York City Twin Towers. I can't imagine how excruciating the burning must have been to force a man to leap to his death. In hell a man will have no place to jump. The flame is eternal. It is a liquid flame we are told - A Lake of Fire burning with brimstone. Jesus asked the question, "How shall ye escape the damnation of Hell?" He also answered the question for all who care to know.
John 3:16, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
