The greatest victory in life is the victory over self
DR. LEE ROBERSON PASSED AWAY AT THE AGE OF 97.
In the fall of 1978 I moved my family to Chattanooga, Tennessee to attend Tennessee Temple University. Dr. Lee Roberson was Pastor of Highland Park Baptist Church(HPBC) and Chancellor of the Bible School. It was an experience we will never forget. Not only did we have the opportunity to sit under the ministry of this great Man of God, but we heard some of the giants of the faith preach on a regular basis. Preachers like Hyman Appleman, Lester Roloff, John R. Rice, Jacob Gartenhaus, Curtis Hutson, Tom Malone, Dr. Henry Morris, and an endless list of men, many who are now with the Lord. HPBC was a mega-Church built differently than the modern day mega churches. It was built upon the pure and powerfully preached Word of God. There was deep conviction in the services and the altars were filled every service. The emphasis was always on winning souls and teaching them the Word of God. Dr. Lee Roberson was probably the most disciplined man I have ever known. His convictions were set and he stayed with them throughout his life. Dr. Roberson passed up the opportunities of greatness in the secular world to serve the Lord. In his book, Double-Breasted, he states, "I love the local Church...In the early part of my ministry I gave a message on "The Power of a New Testament Church." He went on to ask, "Where is power of a local Church?" His 4 points show what made his ministry great. "First, in her adherence to the Word of God...Nothing will take the place of plain preaching...Second, the power of a New Testament Church is in her devotion to consecrated living...Thirdly, the power of a New Testament Church is in her submission to the Holy Spirit...Fourth, the power of a New Testament Church is in her zeal for the lost."
Those four points answering the question, "Where is the power of a local Church?" were proven to be true by the many thousands of souls saved, lives changed, men called to preach and prepared to preach and Churches built all over the world.
DR. LEE ROBERSON, ABSENT FROM THE BODY, PRESENT WITH THE LORD. PSALM 116:15, "PRECIOUS IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD IS THE DEATH OF HIS SAINTS."
